Blue Thursdays at Porsche Design
The Spirit of SoHo New York
Stuttgart. Beginning on Thursday, March 8th, the brand new Porsche Design Store in SoHo is proud to present eight straight weeks of in-store live performance, featuring 16 unique and talented musicians. The Blue Thursday musical line-up features a wide spectrum of musical talent; an homage to the diversity of New York City, one of the greatest cities for art and culture. This impressive roster of talent is comprised of local up-and-coming singer-songwriters, followed by some of the greatest blues musicians that NYC has to offer. Porsche Design's Blue Thursdays will kick off on March 8th at 6pm with the musical stylings of Lyle Divinsky, (6pm-7pm), followed by local Blues legend Junior Mack (7pm-8pm).
Porsche Design's recently opened 250 square meter store, located conveniently off the corner of West Broadway and Houston Streets, resides in a historic cast-iron building, one of many which the iconic neighborhood in NYC is known for. SoHo has always been home to a rich and diverse art scene covering everything from painting and music to performance art and dance. Making a contribution to the neighborhood’s artistic diversity keeps in line with Porsche Design's tradition of inspiration as well as innovation.
Porsche Design has been redefining Iconic Style since 1972. Porsche Design is a luxury brand with a particular focus on technically inspired products. The brand was established in 1972 by Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche. The company’s products stand for functional, timeless and purist design, with forward thinking technical innovations which truly embody form as well as function. The product portfolio includes watches, sunglasses, luggage, electronic products, a men’s fragrance line as well as sports apparel and a fashion collection. All of the brand’s products are designed in the Porsche Design Studio in Zell am See, Austria, and sold worldwide in the company’s own stores, franchise stores, shop-in-shops, high-end department stores and exclusive specialist retailers.
In the 1970s SoHo saw a surge of artists of all kinds inhabit the neighborhood. The historic cast-iron buildings which traditionally hosted manufacturing and commerce slowly gave way to more desirable loft spaces. These sprawling areas with their large windows and low rents suddenly became extremely attractive to the painters, actors, poets, musicians, dancers, and everything in between that began to thrive in the neighborhood. Today, SoHo has earned it's place as one of the premier districts of shopping and style. From the influx of poor artists and small factories in the 1970s, to the explosion of commerce and style today, SoHo continues to evolve as one of the most exciting and inspiring neighborhoods in New York City.
