Porsche Design presents Chronograph 1 – F.A.T. 2025 Edition

Porsche Design presents Chronograph 1 – F.A.T. 2025 Edition

In 1972, Porsche Design revolutionized the watch industry with the introduction of the Chronograph I. As the first entirely black chronograph, it set new standards in design and functionality. Inspired by the dashboard of the legendary Porsche 911, its anti-reflective dial offered unparalleled readability and a clean, functional aesthetic. With the Chronograph 1 – F.A.T. 2025 Edition, Porsche Design and F.A.T. International open a new chapter in this success story. In a strictly limited edition of just 136 pieces, the lifestyle brand, in collaboration with the car community, introduces a chronograph featuring an entirely white dial for the first time. Fully coated with white Super-LumiNova® luminous material, it ensures optimal readability even in total darkness. Porsche Design adheres to the design principles of its founder, Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, by inverting the brand’s signature matte black dial. This approach not only introduces a fresh aesthetic but also enhances the functionality of the chronograph through improved readability.

This is F.A.T.: Motorsport Enthusiasm and Porsche Passion

In the early 1990s, F.A.T. International, then a French logistics company, set an ambitious goal: to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In close collaboration with Porsche and former racing driver Joachim Dauer, the legendary Porsche 962, a former Le Mans champion who had been out of competition for years, was brought back to the race track. With innovative modifications and a smart interpretation of the regulations, the Porsche 962, featuring the F.A.T. International livery, claimed the overall victory at Le Mans in 1994. Inspired by this triumph, Ferdi Porsche, nephew of Prof. Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, the designer of the Porsche 911 and founder of Porsche Design, set himself the goal to revive the name F.A.T. International as a modern motorsport community. Since 2019, F.A.T. International has united motorsport enthusiasts and Porsche fans through spectacular events, such as the F.A.T. Ice Race, a revival of the historic ice race in Zell am See, and the modern reopening of the iconic “Mankei” hut on the Grossglockner High Alpine Road. This vibrant international community of like-minded individuals celebrates and shares their passion for sports cars. At the hyper-modern pavilion, designed in part by Ferdi Porsche and located next to the „F.A.T. Mankei“ hut, visitors can admire a rotating selection of exhibition vehicles, including the very Porsche 962 that triumphed at Le Mans over 30 years ago. The Grossglockner High Alpine Road itself, still used as a testing track for Porsche vehicles, is steeped in automotive history.

Black on White

F.A. Porsche’s design philosophy, “When you reconsider the function of an object, its form often becomes obvious,” was already embodied in the creation of the Chronograph I. Featuring a matte black dial with white hands and indices, along with a striking red stop-seconds hand, it offered optimal contrast for quick and easy readability — even at high speeds. With the Chronograph 1 – F.A.T. 2025 Edition, Porsche Design now takes this concept even further. For the first time, the dial appears in radiant white thanks to a full coating of innovative Super-LumiNova® luminescent material. This maximum luminosity, paired with black indices, numbers, and hands, it ensures unrestricted readability both day and night, making it perfect for endurance races like the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The stop-seconds hand retains its iconic, bold red, characteristic of the original Chronograph 1. In the dark, luminous details reveal hidden features: the silhouette of the Porsche 962 adorns the hour counter. The „6“ on the subdial at 6 o’clock, together with a „9“ and a „2,“ forming the vehicle name and the F.A.T. International logo is discreetly displayed under the date display. The English day display adds an extra distinctive touch, replacing „SAT“ and „SUN“ with „F.A.T.“ in the signature red of F.A.T., transforming every weekend into a race weekend.

Innovative, Precise and Unmistakable Like the 962

Crafted from ultra-light titanium and coated with matte black titanium carbide, the case of the Chronograph 1 – F.A.T. 2025 Edition pays tribute to the Porsche 962, echoing its legendary aerodynamic shape and matte carbon fiber surface. The crown features the historic Porsche Design logo, while the titanium case back is engraved with the silhouette of the 962, the „F.A.T. 2025“ logo, the Porsche Design lettering, and the limited-edition number. The matte black titanium wrist band highlights the iconic design of the original Chronograph I from 1972, with the clasp featuring the Porsche Design logo from that era. Additionally, the watch comes with a white textile strap with the F.A.T. Ice Race badge. Porsche Design will once again be the official timing partner of the F.A.T. Ice Race in 2025, a winter motorsport spectacle held against the stunning Alpine backdrop of Zell am See. The event, hosted on the local airfield, draws fans from around the world, combining speed, thrilling drifts, and rally action on snow and ice with both historic and modern vehicles. The robust strap is designed for extreme conditions, offering maximum comfort and ease of use, even when worn over a racing suit or ski outfit, thanks to its Velcro closure. Customers also receive the exclusive „F.A.T. Mankei Strap,“ a purple textile-and-leather strap in. This modern color is inspired by the interior design of the glass pavilion that is located next to the F.A.T. Mankei hut, creating a strong connection to this unique location. With a quick-change mechanism, the straps can be swapped effortlessly and without using any tools. At the heart of the chronograph lies the COSC-certified Porsche Design caliber WERK 01.240 with flyback function, allowing users to stop, reset, and restart timing in a single operation — ideal for precise lap time measurements. Like all Porsche Design timepieces, the Chronograph 1 – F.A.T. 2025 Edition is handcrafted at Porsche’s watch manufactory in Solothurn, Switzerland. This limited-edition timepiece is amended with an exclusive watch box, featuring a special plaque that is engraved with the limited-edition number.

The Porsche Design Chronograph 1 – F.A.T. 2025 Edition will be available to order from  February 1, 2025 for €10,936 (RRP) at porsche-design.com and shop.porsche.com and in Porsche Design Stores worldwide.
