Precision, functionality, and design: The original characteristics of Porsche sports cars ever-present in Porsche Design timepieces since 1972. The basic Porsche Principle of maximizing results is also true for the field of watch development. Following this tradition, Porsche Design has focused on the advancement of the “powertrain”. The new Chronotimer Flyback Special Edition is driven by Porsche Design’s first automatic calibre, Werk 01.200, a specially developed mechanical-fly-back-chronograph movement. Characterized by the technically sophisticated flyback function, it possesses an excellent precision rate, recognized with a COSC certificate for accuracy from the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC). The Special Edition complements the exclusive Chronotimer Collection, which currently consists of thirteen different models. Each of these timepieces is the hallmark for precision and functionality in the field of sports watches.

Uncompromisingly Authentic

The Chronotimer Collection and Porsche sports car are two of a kind, as both are entirely dedicated to function and precision. This new edition effortlessly reflects the essence of the style-forming Porsche Heritage. The 42-mm diameter timepiece, water-resistant to five bar, features an innovative titanium case – compulsory at Porsche Design since 1980 – with a black titanium carbide-coating. A further tribute to motor-sport and lightweight construction, the watch utilizes a matte-black carbon dial reminiscent of Porsche instrument gauges. The stop-second hand and the rings around the chronograph push pieces are designed using red to distinguish the stop-function from the regular time indication, in order to increase the overall functionality.

Paying equal attention to detail, the leather strap reflects the timeless elegance of classic Porsche sports car: it is made of the same leather and identical red stitching used in the interiors of select Porsche sports cars – Porsche’s leather upholstery is synonymous with exceptional quality and style. Also new is the innovative strap system, which allows for quick replacement of the leather strap, and a new titanium butterfly-deployment-clasp with safety push buttons.

A New Benchmark for Efficiency and Performance

The Chronotimer Flyback Special Edition is powered by the Porsche Design calibre Werk 01.200, introduced in the 2017 Chronotimer 911 Turbo S Exclusive Series. The chronograph calibre features a flyback mechanism, which permits the measurement of successive intervals, such as lap times on the racetrack. The 4 Hz-automatic movement is the result of the exclusive lifestyle brand’s engineering and horological competence and knowledge derived from decades of racecar development. In accordance with Porsche’s lightweight construction philosophy, the movement’s barrel bridge is load-optimized and open-worked to reduce as much weight as possible, while highlighting the flyback function and gear train. The same applies to the energy-optimized Porsche Design Icon rotor. Visible through the case back’s sapphire crystal, the rotor is PVD-coated and equipped with an innovative weight crafted from tungsten.
